Advanced Diver

The Advanced Diver course further develops knowledge and skills. Divers gain experience in planning dives at different sites and different circumstances. Additional experience will be gained in using small boats, chartwork. navigation and many other related skills. BSAC consider this grade as being a fully trained diver.
Advanced Divers are eligible to progress to Advanced Instructor.

Summary
The ADVANCED DIVER Course consists of the following elements:

– four theory lessons
– two dry practical lessons
– two open water lessons
– theory assessment
– twenty dives in range of conditions

The course has relatively few ‘formal’ practical lessons and is much more heavily based on a further structured broadening of experience in a wide range of conditions.

– Review of diving related conditions
– A practical review of the use of oxygen

– Managing an incident

ADVANCED DIVER THEORY TEST

OPEN WATER DIVES

DIVING AND RESCUE SKILLS REVIEW
– Emergency procedures including self rescue and surface assistance to a buddy

RESCUE SKILLS AND MANAGEMENT REVIEW
– Rescue an unconscious diver from depth
– Surface management of a similar rescue

EXPEDITION PLANNING
– Use available sources of information to select dives sites in areas unknown to the Branch/Centre

DIVE PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT
– Act as Dive Marshal for diving at sites unknown to the Branch/Centre involving
multi-day diving at locations remote from the Branch’s/Centre’s normal area of
operation

DIVING EXPERIENCE
– Have experience of a range different diving conditions during 20 dives totalling a minimum of 600 mins in water time since qualifying as a Dive Leader
– Have experience of acting as Dive Leader
– Have experience of diving from boats
– Have experience of acting as a Dive
– Manager at a range of sites including some unknown to the Branch/Centre
– Have experience of depths exceeding 30m
